Many people suffer from Temporo-Mandibular Joint Disorder. These joints are where the jaw meets the skull. TMJ jaw pain is caused by problems with these joints. TMJD can cause jaw pain, neck pain, jaw popping and clicking, tooth grinding, headaches, ringing in the ears, dizziness and insomnia. These problems affect not only your oral health, but your whole body and can grow very serious over time.

The TMJ jaw is the mandible. The joint where the mandible connects to the skull is very complicated and this is part of the reason TMJD can cause so many problems. The jaw often experiences more of the TMJ symptoms. TMJ pain is the most common TMJ symptom and it can grow to be quite severe. The jaw pain is often caused by the jaw muscles being over stressed and this can even cause them to spasm, causing even more pain.

TMJ jaw discomfort is not the only symptom caused by TMJD. Other symptoms like tooth grinding can affect the jaw and oral health as well. Many believe that TMJD is cause by a misalignment of the jaw and joints that places stress on the joints and muscles. The first step to TMJ treatment is relaxing the jaw muscles to cease pain. To cure TMJD it is important to correct the occlusion.
